Artist Statement

My work is the creative expression of my relationship with God and the revelations of my inner being. I am a multidisciplinary artist who works with watercolor, acrylic gauche, oil, and clay. In my work, I focus on the idea of knowingness through the revelation of Jesus Christ as God incarnate. As I know Him, I also know myself. My daily life and experiences are transported onto a canvas or a sculptural piece, with Gardenhead as a figurative example of myself.

Flowers as her head are used as a symbol of the ephemeral glory we possess as humans and the beauty of womanhood. My interest in flowers comes from their multifaceted ability to represent emotion, state of mind, character, and much more. Flowers bloom, wilt, survive, are given as gifts, are delicate, fragrant, feminine, and are a true emblem of life. The idea is that someone seeing and understanding Gardenhead can relate more intimately since there is no face, only symbolism. Anyone can see themselves as Gardenhead.

I create works that engage the viewer to have an inner dialog of what it means to consider the glory of God while also enjoying the visual journeys Gardenhead takes. Some of the narratives in my pieces can seem as mundane as reading or express an emotion of endurance in a way that is raw, honest, and true. I want to encourage others to answer simple and complicated questions such as, “Why do I believe what I believe?” Because the answer to this question reveals the root of our identity as human beings.
